Online Distribution for Digital Video Production

Online Distribution for Digital Video Production

  • Downloading - Downloading is the transference of a file from one computer or system to another computer, is when you are able to post something online from one computer that can be in the other side of the world to your own computer but in order to make that happen you will need broadband connection(internet).
  • The file transfer protocol [FTP] its a protocol for internet downloading and uploading files, a special application furnishes FTP services for you.(it takes place if you downloading though a web page and the FTP request its already set up for you by the Web page that you are downloading from and it usually asks you where do you want the file that's about to be downloaded, where would you like to place it in your hard drive, and then the download starts.
  • When you send a file attached via e-mail to someone that's not classified as an upload or download. normally people use the term 'download' and 'upload' when asking someone to send then a file via email, but that's an attachment not a download!
  • Some of the disadvantages of downloads include the size of the potential high-quality files, which may be a problem for some consumers due to the speed or lack of storage. The fact the content can be shared and posted in places not linked to the venue could also be a possible problem with content getting pirated which could result in a drop in revenue another problem is availability of file formats to offer a file in a range of different formats could be a consuming process if a customer does not have access to the media in the format they desire they may no even bother to download.
  • Progressive Downloading -Progressive downloading is when the digital media is been transferred to the client and the whoever the consumer is he will be able to begin playback the media before the download is fully completed and a good example of that is XBOX ONE in the Xbox one you can download games online and before the game is fully downloaded you can start to play the game while is on a certain %percent  amount. The best thing about progressive downloading is that you can watch  videos or play games before its even completed,  so you don't have to wait loads of time to be complete, specially when you have a slow broadband connection.
  • Progressive Streaming

With progressive streaming the venue could record performances of bands, DJ sets, pod-casts and the like and upload these at later date allowing customers to view or even download them if that's what they desire to do. This is very useful for people who couldn't catch the performance live again a fee could be charged to the consumers. A few examples of progressive streaming is Netflix, Amazon prime and YouTube. These on-demand services/video sharing websites offer a wide range of content and are available online.
One of disadvantages of progressive streaming are that content can easily be downloaded by users and shared with anyone else they see fit meaning that potential revenue and site hits could suffer which could of course be damaging to the venue. If you're charging for your content and consumers can get it free elsewhere there's likelihood they'll do so.
  • Streaming

With the internet it became so much easier for videos and webcasts of live events and it became so popular since you don't have to download any file into your computer its simple a continuous stream of data and most people prefer to broadcast by doing streaming  because it can be hard for most users to download the content or distribute to people.
The term 'Streaming' means that you can listen to music or are able to watch a video in 'real time', instead of having to go though the trouble and the time waiting to download you can watch the video whenever you please, you don't need to wait. But to be able to stream a video or music you will need broadband connection(internet). But streaming can be very annoying sometimes, when the use has a low broadband connection and it takes a long time to stream a music or video or for those who doesn't have internet it would be impossible to access any music or video that's storage online.
Streaming has become the most common method of watching videos or listening to music in internet radio or online streaming websites and the most common videos/music streaming website are YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer.
YouTube is the most popular way of music streaming and it became viral world-wide specially for the fact that's free, YouTube not just doesn't charge you anything but also pays you for having many views in your videos, and what makes YouTube even greater is that it can stream low, medium and high-quality videos to both broadband and mobile users.
Streaming can be very bad too not just because the slow broadband but because in some mobile operators in order to use the internet you need to have bandwidth allowance and YouTube consumes a lot of that allowance so it wastes most of you bandwidth allowance or it may be capped it the number has a fixed number of gigabytes per month and listening to music can consume up to 1 megabyte per minute and watching a video on YouTube can consume up to 5 megabytes per minute and can consume even more depending on the quality that the video is set.

  • Live Streaming- Its when the content is been streaming live, in real time, what you seeing its happening somewhere else and  'live streaming' its the term in which refers for the content that's been delivered live over the internet, and in order to do live streaming it requires a form of source media for example, a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software.
